Variance Calculations With Microsoft Excel

Excel provides useful statistical functions for finding a variance. In general, these variance functions retrieve a set of values stored in a worksheet range and then make the expected calculation.

A variance, just to remind readers, is a common measure of describing the spread of observations in a distribution. A variance is related to another statistical measure, the standard deviation. A variance is equal to the square of the standard deviation.

Variance of a Sample with the VAR Function

Variance Calculations With Microsoft Excel

If the data you're working with is a sample and you do not want to include logical values or text from the set in the calculation, you use the VAR function. For example, if you're using a new production process that is supposed to increase productivity and have a series of data for the numbers of parts produced each day, you can find the sample variance. The VAR function uses the following syntax:

=VAR (data set range)

Variance of a Sample with the VARA Function

If the data is a sample but you want to include logical values or text in the calculation, you use the VARA function. Excel counts cells containing the logical value TRUE as 1 and cells containing text or FALSE 0. The VARA function uses the following syntax:

=VARA (data set range)

Variance of a Population Sample with the VARP Function

If the data you're working with is a population and you do not want to include logical values or text from the set in the calculation, you use the VARP function. The VARP function uses the following syntax:

=VARP (data set range)

Variance of a Population with the VARPA Function

If the data is a population but you want to include logical values or text in the calculation, you use the VARPA function. The VARPA function uses the following syntax:

=VARPA (data set range)

A Final Note About the Data Set Range Argument

One other note: You can include multiple worksheet ranges as your data set range argument when using the variance functions. For example, if you were calculating the variance of a sample using the VAR function and had your data stored in several different worksheet ranges, your VAR function might look like this:

=VAR(B1:B:10,B101:B110,B200)

Sample CDL Test Questions - Getting Prepared For the CDL Exam

There are several places to get a sample CDL test to practice before taking the real CDL exam. The benefits of taking a sample CDL test can make the difference between passing or failing your exam. One study has shown that more than 50% of all test takers require more than one shot at passing the written CDL exams. Since each exam actually costs you money to take, this can get expensive in a hurry. The best course of action is to practice taking the CDL test several times before taking it for real.

Sample CDL test questions can range in scope from any one of dozens of categories. There are questions regarding hazmat, cargo, double and triple trailer driving skills and rules, airbrakes, and many others. Finding a resource for sample CDL test questions should be a major preparation item for you.

Some sample CDL test questions that you might expect to find on your exam include:

Sample CDL Test Questions - Getting Prepared For the CDL Exam

· Knowing all the steps and checks involved in a pre trip engine inspection

· How do you calculate axle weight properly?

· What is the proper driving technique to use when hydroplaning occurs?

· How many tie downs do you need per square foot of cargo to avoid shifting in your trailer?

· What are the dangers of driving at night?

· What are the DOT rules for hours on shift before a mandatory break is needed?

· What is the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, and how to calculate it

· Many, many others

As you can see, the scope and depth of these sample CDL test questions is quite large, and those only cover a few of the topics you will need to know in order to pass the CDL exam. A passing score is widely considered to by 80% or above, therefore, there is not much room for error.

As with any important exam, there are certain things you should do outside of studying to prepare for taking your CDL exam. Implement the following tips to give you a better shot as passing your first time.

1. Exercise the morning before your exam. Even walking for 20 or 30 minutes will help your body wake up and be more alert during the day. The exercise releases certain chemicals in your brain and body to allow for more alert and clearer thinking.

2. Eat a healthy breakfast. Avoid eating a large breakfast that will only make you sleepy and more tired. A breakfast of 400 calories or less, made up of grains and carbohydrates will give you the energy and focus you need.

3. Avoid energy drinks. Energy drinks will actually only slow you down once they start to wear off, and most do not last more than an hour or two. The subsequent crash will leave you struggling to focus and not thinking clearly.

4. Do not cram the night before. The night before the exam, just run through your sample CDL test questions for an hour or so, and then let your brain relax. If you stay up all night cramming for the test, you are less likely to actually remember the content, as your brain struggles to hold the information in. Study well ahead of time, and prepare.

Hopefully you find this information useful. The best way to prepare is to use a sample CDL test that can be found online.

Stop wasting needless time and money by not being able to pass your national massage therapy certification exam. Learn how you can get your massage therapy license fast that is required to obtain your state massage therapy license. First of all, I highly suggest that you take the nation exam as soon as possible. Don't wait long after you have graduated and then attempt to take the test. Also, I highly suggest that you go over notes, read your books, look over old school exams, and read current massage therapy magazines. Sometimes students who even do this, still find it challenging to pass the national certification exam.

If you live in a state where the MBLEx is accepted, I would jump all over that. Most states do accept the MBLEx exam and offer it to all massage therapy student graduates. I have found that thousands of future massage therapists prefer the MBLEx hands down over any other exam. The MBLEx is and can be and overwhelming exam and an exam you will not pass if you think you can just take it without any preparation. Its a 200 question test that cost about 0.00. Many people fail this test and cause themselves a lot of needless expense, grief, and a feeling that is not very good for this kind of profession. Calculating Interest Rates with Microsoft Excel

The Rate function calculates the interest rate implicit in a set of loan or investment terms
given the number of periods (months, quarters, years or whatever), the payment per period, the present value, the future value, and, optionally, the type-of-annuity switch, and also optionally, an interest-rate guess.

If you set the type-of-annuity switch to 1, Excel assumes payments occur at the beginning
of the period, following the annuity due convention. If you set the annuity switch to 0 or
you omit the argument, Excel assumes payments occur at the end of the period following
the ordinary annuity convention.

Microsoft Certification Courses

The function uses the following syntax:

Calculating Interest Rates with Microsoft Excel

RATE (nper, pmt, pv, fv, type, guess)

As one example, suppose you want to calculate the implicit interest rate on a car lease for a ,000 car that requires five years of 0-a-month payments (occurring as an annuity due) and also a
,000 balloon payment. To do this, assuming you want to start with a guess of 10%, you
can use the following formula:

=RATE(5*12,-250,20000,-15000,1)

The function returns the value .95%, which is a monthly interest rate of just less than 1%.
If you annualize this monthly rate by multiplying it by 12, you get an equivalent annual
interest rate of 11.41%.

As another example, suppose you want to calculate the implicit interest rate on a 0,000 real estate mortgage that requires thirty years of 00-a-month payments (occurring as an ordinary annuity) but (thankfully) no balloon payment. To do this, assuming you want to start with a guess of 10%, you can use the following formula:

=RATE(30*12,-2000,300000)

The function returns the value .59%, which is a monthly interest rate of slightly more than half a percent.
If you annualize this monthly rate by multiplying it by 12, you get an equivalent annual
interest rate of 7.0203%.

A final point: Excel solves the RATE function iteratively starting with the guess argument you provide.
(If you don't provide this optional argument, Excel uses 10%.) If Excel can't solve the RATE argument within 20 attempts, it returns the #NUM! error. You can try a different guess argument, which may help because you're telling Excel to begin its search from a different (hopefully closer) starting point.
