Sheriffs Deputy Exam Questions - Review Practice Testing Questions and Answers

Passing the Sheriff's Deputy Exam is a key component to becoming a police officer. It doesn't matter which department you want to work in, whether you want to work for the county or the state, if you don't pass, you don't play.

There are ways to outperform the competition to become a Sheriff's deputy, and that competition is fierce. By studying. It seems so simple, yet so many candidates don't do it. There are ways to prepare yourself for the exam, so that you can put yourself ahead of the rest.

The best way is to get a police exam study guide that has practice exams in it. Study this guide and take the practice exams. Both of these things will help you in your preparation for the test. Here is an example of a question you might see on the Sheriff's Deputy exam, answer this question and use good judgment and see if you come up with the same answer that I give below.

Sheriffs Deputy Exam Questions - Review Practice Testing Questions and Answers

Deputy Sheriff Practice Test Question:

You are dispatched to a domestic disturbance between a husband and wife. Upon arrival, there are already two deputies on the scene fighting with the husband. When you run over to assist, the wife charges you with a broken bottle in her hand. You tell her to drop the bottle, but she refuses and continues to advance in a threatening manner.

Because the wife refuses to comply with your verbal command, what is your next course of action to stop her advancing and put the bottle down?

The correct answer is what you would logically do. If you go for deadly force, that is probably not a wise move, as even though she has threatened you, she has not attacked you. The next logical solution is to move up to the next level of force, and retrieve the taser gun, and/or the hand held baton.

Social Security Disability Exam - What Should You Expect?

If you are filing for social security disability (SSD) or supplemental security income (SSI) benefits, you may have to submit to a consultative exam (CE), which is a physical or mental exam scheduled by the social security administration.

Not all individuals filing for SSD or SSI are required to go to a CE, but for those who have not been to a doctor within the last 60 days, or who have other medical conditions listed in their medical records for which they have not received prior treatment, a CE will in all likelihood be required before a disability examiner can render a decision on your claim.

A consultative medical exam is not scheduled for the purpose of prescribing medical treatment, nor is it a means to arrive at a diagnosis that will prove or disprove a medical disability. In fact, most CEs are fairly brief, and may last as little as 10 minutes, because their sole purpose is to meet the requirement that a disability examiner consider "recent medical evidence" before closing a case. In other words, it's more of a formality, and will not overrule the other medical evidence which a claimant has supplied to the social security administration in his or her medical history.

Social Security Disability Exam - What Should You Expect?

However, sometimes doctors' notes make reference to secondary medical conditions for which the claimant is not seeking benefits, such as depression, or insomnia, etc., fairly common complaints for those who are under the stress of dealing with chronic pain or fatigue, or for anyone who must consider leaving the workforce for that matter. If your physician has noted that you seem depressed or are suffering other mental symptoms for which you have not had treatment, your CE may consist of a mental exam, and yes, you must attend. Not only is not attending a scheduled CE grounds for denial of your disability claim, but it could also mean that you short yourself from receiving full compensation for any other impairments you might have. Either attend the scheduled CE or reschedule it if you are unable to make it that day.

Not all CEs are medical exams; some may require that a patient have recent medical tests to provide the disability examiner with a snapshot of their physical state as it is now. New X-rays, MRIs, or spirometry testing of pulmonary function may be required before a case is closed to show how your condition has improved, worsened, or if it remains stable.

One thing that you should prepare yourself for if you are scheduled for a consultative exam, and this is really word of mouth from those who have attended them before-many of the physicians who conduct CEs do not come off as the most caring individuals. While this is not true of all of them, to be sure, many social security disability claimants leave these exams feeling defensive, and that the doctor performing the exam doesn't really care about them, or even believe that they are disabled. If this is your experience, do not put to much stock into what the physician performing the CE thinks or doesn't think, because in the end it is really your treating physician's opinion that will be given the most weight by the disability examiner.

Tips For Writing a University Petition Letter

In a university setting, writing a petition letter is a very common occurrence. This is because in the academic world there are many exemptions for students and professors, but in order to get this exemption, one has to write a letter of petition to the appropriate department or person.

That is not to say that every petition letter gains approval but it does go a long way towards getting your position known and heard. Before you write such a letter find out the name of the person to whom it should be addressed. Even if you send the letter to the correct department, it may not be forwarded to the proper person.

For the most part all applications submitted to graduate schools in universities across the country must be accompanied by a petition letter. In this letter you provide a brief summary of the documentation you have included in your application and express your reasons for applying to this graduate program.

Tips For Writing a University Petition Letter

The usual requirement for admission to graduate school is a GPA of 3.0. Students will a lower grade point average can still gain admission if they address the issue in their letter explaining the reasons why they should be admitted and if there are any extenuating circumstances that could account for the lower than acceptable grades.

Even within a department, you may need to make a petition for different reasons. If you transfer from another university, for example, and you have already completed the work for a specific course under a different name at the former university, you may have to write a letter requesting that you be exempted from this course for your current program of studies.

In this letter you should make specific references to the topics studied and the types of assignments you completed along with documentation attesting to this from the previous university. This does not mean that gaining exemption will give you one less course to complete, but you should ask for recommendations of another course that could fulfill this requirement.

Both students and professors must adhere to deadlines in university because of the nature of the semester teaching schedule. There are times during the year when students are unable to meet deadlines for assignments or for being able to meet the testing schedule.

Sometimes waiving the deadline is a simple matter of discussing the situation with the professor, but other situations may require a petition letter to the Registrar's Office or the Dean of a department. This usually refers to not being able to meet application deadlines. Such petitions usually do not meet with approval unless the circumstances are really exceptional and warrant an extension of the deadline.

Students who do not agree with the grades they receive in a course can also petition the department to reread the exam. Other examples include asking for permission to withdraw from a course without academic prejudice or to obtain a refund of the tuition paid. Most universities require specific details to be included in the petition format, which include:

o student's full name and address

o student's university number

o student email address and telephone numbers

o a clear statement of the action requested in the petition

o a description of the conditions that warrant this action

o a statement of why university policy should not be followed in this case

Without inclusion of this information, the petition will not be recognized and therefore will not result in any action being taken.

CPA FAR Exam - 3 Must-Read Study Tactics

The CPA FAR exam is one of the toughest exams among the 4 sections in the Uniform CPA examination. In fact, the passing rate is only 48.5%, second lowest among the 4 tests. The questions for you is: why is FAR so difficult, and what is the best way to tackle the beast? Here are 3 suggestions based on my personal experience.

1. Manage Your Time During Your CPA FAR Exam Study

Time management is critical for CPA FAR exam given the huge amount of volume you will need to study and review for this particular section. While it depends on your knowledge in the financial accounting concepts, I generally recommend at least 3 months to prepare for this exam. Most people with some knowledge in accounting (which you should with all the education requirements) can finish the coursework within 6-8 weeks. This would leave enough time for you to catch up, or better yet, to devote the last month in working intensely on the practice tests.

CPA FAR Exam - 3 Must-Read Study Tactics

2. Seek Help In Scheduling Your FAR Coursework

The FAR exam is like Lake Superior of one-inch deep: while the amount of materials looks overwhelming, the exam neither gets too difficult nor goes into too much details.

This is excellent news because it means that candidates usually can pass the exam if they have ample time to study and prepare for it. This also means that a CPA exam review course is especially helpful for FAR because the guided review makes sure you cover all the grounds. Please take the time to pick the best (not the most expensive, but the most suitable) CPA exam review course for you - it could very well be the ticket to pass the CPA exam on your first attempt!

3. Manage Your Time During Your CPA FAR Exam

You may not realize, but how you manage your time during the CPA exam is also very important for your passing success. Many candidates struggle to finish FAR, which could be one of the main reasons why this section has a relatively low pass rate.

You can overcome this potential issue by a conscious effort to allocate your time for each sub-section: the testlets and the simulations.

There are 4 hours for this exam, which means that in general, you can allocate 45 minutes for each testlet (i.e. 2 hours and 15 minutes for the entire multiple choice questions), leaving 1 hour and 45 minutes for the two simulations. You can either allocate 45 minutes for each with 15 minutes to spare, or maximize the time by giving approximately 50 minutes for each simulation.

Rather than blindly following this schedule, a much better way for you is customization based on your own relative strength / weakness in each area. Please take the time to complete an entire CPA FAR mock exam and see how long it takes to finish the multiple choice questions vs simulations.

How Many Times Can You Retake the CPA Exam?

The CPA exam measures your knowledge of public accounting principles, and is made up of four parts: Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR), Auditing and Attestation (AUS), Regulation (REG), and Business Environment and Concepts (BEC). You must complete and pass all four sections to earn your license and become a CPA.

There are four two-month testing windows each year, and you may take any or all sections of the exam in a particular window. However, it's important to allow yourself enough time to prepare for each section. Candidates who attempt to take on too much or spread their study time too thin may find it difficult to pass on their first attempt. Likewise, those who undertake the exam without the benefit of CPA exam courses may discover that they need formal exam prep in order to pass.

If you do not pass one or more sections of the exam, you'll have the opportunity to retake those sections during a later testing window. The following outlines what you need to know about retaking - and ultimately passing - the CPA exam.

How Many Times Can You Retake the CPA Exam?

Scoring of CPA Exam Sections

Each section of the exam is scored on a scale of 0 to 99, with varying weights applied to specific types of exam questions. Through 2010, a minimum score of 75 was required to pass each section. However, the scoring and weights have changed with the introduction of the exam's computer-based testing evolution (CBT-e) in January of 2011. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Board of Examiners will make a decision regarding the minimum passing score in the early months of 2011, after data from the first testing window of the new 2011 exam become available.

As for the CBT-e scoring weights, the FAR, AUD and REG sections all have the same structure - multiple choice questions account for 60% of the total grade, while task-based simulations are worth 40%. For the BEC section, multiple choice questions are worth 85% of the final score, while written communication tasks contribute 15% of the grade.

Release of CPA Exam Results

Exam testing windows run the first two months of each calendar quarter, and candidates typically receive their scores during the last month of the quarter. The results of the CPA exam are released in two waves; the first is approximately a week before the testing window ends, while the second is about two weeks after the test window closes.

However, the AICPA does not issue scores directly to candidates. It sends them to the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA). The individual boards are responsible for approving and releasing scores to candidates, and each board sets its own schedule for distributing the results. If you suspect you did poorly on a particular section, you do not have to wait for your CPA exam results before rescheduling a retake; however, you cannot retake the same section more than once in the same testing window.

Timeframe for Completing CPA Exam

To answer the question posed at the outset of this article, there is no limit to the number of times you may retake the CPA exam. However, you must pass all four sections of the exam within 18 consecutive months. The calendar begins when you take your first exam, assuming you pass at least one section in that window. If you do not pass all four sections within the 18 month timeframe, you will lose credit for any sections you passed at the beginning of the rolling window, and the calendar will restart on the date of the next exam section you passed.

If you exceed the initial 18 month window, not only will you have to retake the section(s) you did not pass, but also any section(s) that you may have previously passed but which have since expired. That's why many candidates opt to invest in CPA exam courses to improve their chances of passing the exams the first time around, and avoid retakes.

Passing the CPA Exam

Whether you're preparing to take your first section of the CPA exam or getting ready to retake a section, be sure to allow sufficient time for planning and preparation.
